1.     Prepare a short speech of about 100 words on “Blood Donation’ to be delivered by you to your class.

                                                               Blood Donation.

My Dear Friend’s  : I will now give you some information on a topic important to all of us - Blood Donation.

We all need blood to survive, but in the case of accident victims, those undergoing surgery, and sick children, there is a great and desperate need for blood from a donor. Their life depends on donated blood. A Shortage of donated blood means the difference between life and death for them- and blood donors are the only source of blood. Currently only a tiny percentage of those eligible to do so actually donate blood. Imagine if your close friend meets with an accident and desperately needs blood. Wouldn’t you do everything in your power to help?

Donation of blood will cost you nothing. It will not put you in any danger. It will barely take 10-15 minutes of your time. One donation will help to save 3 lives. So won’t you do this good deed whenever you can?

The gift of blood is the gift of life. Every drop  counts. Give blood today ! When you give blood, you’ll be doing one of the most amazing things anybody could dream of – saving a life.

Thank you.

2.     Prepare a short speech of about 100 words on “Students and social service’ to be presented before the class during a literary programme.

                                             STUDENTS AND SOCIAL SERVICE

My Dear Friend’s  : My topic today is ‘Students and Social Service’.

Man is social animal. He derives a lot of benefit from society and it is his duty to give back to society. The question today is : What can students, who are young, do for society?

Well , it is my opinion that since students are young and energetic and have a lot of time on their hands, they are ideally suited to render social service. It has been rightly said : Charity begins at home. Starting with the home and the neighbourhood around them, students can gradually extend their activities to wider spheres. For instance, they can help local bodies to conduct literacy programmes or tree-planting programmes. They can help in organizing blood donation camps or collecting clothes for the poor. They can help in the case of a natural disaster like an earthquake or flood.

However, social service should not interfere with the studies of the students. Nor should it be used by students as an excuse for bunking classes or for neglecting their studies. I hope that many more students will participate in social service to help our nation.

Thank you.

3.     One of the topics therein is “My idea of an ideal student’ . Prepare a short speech of about 100 words

MY IDEA OF AN IDEAL STUDENT

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about MY IDEA OF AN IDEAL STUDENT – that is, A student has many duties and responsibilities. The first duty of a student is to do what he or she is supposed to do – to study well.

However, education does not mean only learning various subjects. A student must also learn to be a good human being. For this, the development of strong moral values is necessary, Moreover, it is the duty of students to get involved in the betterment of society. They should spread their education in whatever ways they can and try to take part in social service camps.

In conclusion, I would like to say that students are young and have a lot of energy. They must use this energy in a positive manner. Only then will they be able to fulfill their duties and responsibilities and can have the privilege of being called ‘ideal students’.

            Thank you.

4.     Prepare a short speech of about 100 words on to be delivered by you on ‘Environmental Pollution’.

                                                                ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about Earth’s enemy number one – that is, Environmental Pollution. We all know quite a bit about it ; but how many of us actually do something about it?

Our air is polluted by smoke, gases and chemicals emitted by vehicles and industries, nuclear emissions, etc. Water gets polluted not only by the untreated discharge of effluents by industries but also by the discharge of domestic sewage. In India, it is a common sight to see non-biodegradable plastic bags and bottles floating on the surface of our water bodies. Noise pollution is also  prevalent in India, because of the noise of vehicles, firecrackers, tec.

We must take immediate steps to fight pollution. We must reduce vehicular and industrial emissions and stop dumping chemical wastes and untreated sewage into our rivers, lakes and seas. We must grow more trees and protect our forests and mangroves. This is our earth, and we are its guardians. We must strive to take care of it to the best of our ability.

Thank you.

5. Write a short speech to be delivered in your college on ‘Tree Conservation’ on the occasion of ‘The World Earth Day’, with the help of the following points (about 100 word) :

1.           1.Air, water and noise pollution. 2. Depletion of natural resources.

3. Trees prevent soil erosion.  4. Live in harmony with nature.

                                                         TREE CONSERVATION

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today,on the occasion of ‘The World Earth Day’ I would like to tell you something about ‘TREE CONSERVATION.

One of the Chief causes of environmental degradation is deforestation. Today, trees are being felled and forest land is being used for agriculture. However, this practice should be stopped with immediate effect, as we all know the importance of trees well.

Tree reduce air pollution by absorbing some of the polluting gases around us. They also act as a shield or barrier to protect us from excessive noise. The roots of trees hold the soil together, thus stopping soil erosion. Trees help to attract the rain clouds, thus increasing precipitation, In addition to all this, trees give us innumerable products, right from fruits and medicines to wood and paper. We, human beings, are the main culprits in the degradation of the environment, and we must make it a point to live in harmony with nature.

Thank you.

6.     You intend to take part in the intercollegiate elocution contest. One of the topics therein is ‘Stop Cruelty to Animals and Birds’. Prepare a speech on it in about 100 words.

STOP CRUELTY TO ANIMALS AND BIRDS !

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today, I would like to tell you something about to my heart, namely. ‘Cruelty to animals and birds’.

We all know that animals and birds are breathing, living creatures, just like us. They, too feel pain; they, too, live and die, just like we do. Then why do so many of us persist in being cruel to them? Why do we fly kites without realizing that the strings of the kites, or ‘manjha’, can kill birds? Why do we throw plastic bags carelessly here and there, knowing that they may be swallowed by dogs and cows, leading to an excruciatingly painful death for them? We live in a land that believes in ‘ahimsa’; let us all pledge to stop cruelty to animals and birds; let us treat them as a part of this universe, having an equal right to a good quality of life, just as we do. Let us be human, let us be humane!

               Thank you.

7.     You wish to take part in an elocution competition in your college. One of the topics is ‘Child Labour’. Prepare a short speech of about 100 words.

CHILD LABOUR

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about CHILD LABOUR – that is, can these word be real – can there be human beings so, cruel as to make young children work?

Unfortunately, the answer is ‘yes’. It is estimated that there are about 60 to 115 million working children in India. These children are engaged in various types of work, like rag-picking., weaving carpets, rolling beedis, making fireworks, cooking, working on construction sites etc. Most of these jobs are hazardous, harmful to the physical, emotional and moral wellbeing of children. Shouldn’t we put a stop to this?

However, before we try to do this, we must delve into the reasons behind this social malady. Parental poverty, illiteracy, social and economic circumstances. Lack of awareness, high rates of unemployment, etc. are some of these reasons. And what is the solution? Firstly, social awareness must be created about the problem. Next, suitable vocational courses must be introduced at school level. Where needy children can work as they learn. And last, but not the least, our government must be extremely strict and give out stringent punishment to those who exploit children. Only then can this social evil be weeded out from our society.

Thank you.

8.     Prepare a short speech of about 100 word on ‘Organ Donation’ to be delivered by

you on ‘Health Day’. You may use the following points: 1.What is organ donation  2. The need for organ donation 3. What can be donated  4. How to register

ORGAN DONATION

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today, on the occasion of ‘Health Day’ I would like to tell you something about ‘ORGAN DONATION’.

What exactly is organ donation?  Organ donation means the donation of a person’s biological tissues or organs after the person dies for the purpose of transplanting them into another person. The person who gives the organ is called a donor while the person who receives the organ is called a recipient.

Each year, thousand of people die while waiting for transplant, because no suitable donor can be found for them. There is a desperate need for organ donors today. All of us can be organ donors, irrespective of our age, religion, cast or medical condition. Vital organs like the heart, liver, kidneys, etc. as well as tissues like the corneas, the skin, bones, etc. can be donated. For the one who receives the organ, a transplant often means a second chance at life. Ability to comfort grieving families. They draw comfort from the fact that their loss may help to save or improve the lives of others.

To be an organ donor, it is important to register by signing up for Organ Donation. Please visit the website I will now give you to get more details and to register.

Thank you.

9.     Write a portion of a speech of about 100 words given by a student in an elocution competition on ‘The State of Democracy in India today’.

THE STATE OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA TODAY

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about THE STATE OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA TODAY.

Unfortunately, democracy in india today does not work the way it should. It is limited to the day when the masses go to the polling booths and their votes. Then they return to their routine lives.

Most people do not actively participate in serious social issues. They do not react to the injustices happening around . Many among us do not bother to raise our voice against the corrupt practices going on around us. Casting our voters once in five years or so is not the sole idea of being a responsible citizen. A citizen should be always vigilant. Likewise, we also need a responsible media to expose those who are corrupt. Further, the people’s representatives should realize that they are accountable to the voters. Only if all these things work together then only can we reap the real fruits of democracy.

Thank you.

But we shall never forget these two years that we spent on this campus. These were years not only of great fun and freedom, but also of successful learning.

We got our first lessons in democracy here. We learnt to live in harmony with all kinds of people. Our professors were patient with us and were always there to clear our doubts. We are grateful to them. We are also grateful to all of you who made these years such a rich experience for us. A heartfelt thanks to you once again, and may God bless our efforts in the coming examination.

Thank you.

11.      You have been invited to speak to a gathering of young college going boys and girls. The topic given to you is “The advantages and disadvantages of the cell phone”. Draft your speech in about 100 words.

THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE CELL PHONE

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE CELL PHONE.

I can see many of you using your cell phone. Young people today have become very attached to this piece of technology. I am not here to denounce the use of the cell phone but what I would like to draw your attention to is the disadvantages of the cell phone. Advantages are plenty it allows you to connect immediately with anyone, anywhere in the world. The text messages are also an set to many who would rather sms than speak. But excessive use of the cell phone creates a lot of problems. The gadget emits, radioactive waves which could cause harm to the eardrums, it has been proved that texting can cause arthritis in the thumb-besides the physical dangers, the cell phone prevents you from making friends, it comes in the way of your relationships with parents, siblings and friends. The list is endless, friends, what any intelligent person would do is to balance the use of the cellphone, use it judiciously, sparingly and you will in time learn that technological gadgets are invented for our use, not to rule lives.

Thank you.

12.     Your school/college is celebrating ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. As the head girl/head boy you are expected to deliver the opening speech. Draft your speech highlighting a few Gandhian values.

                                                                Gandhi Jayanti

My Dear Friends, we have gathered together to commemorate the birth anniversary  of the ‘Father of our Nation’, Bapuji that is, Mahatma Gandhi. Today on Gandhi Jayanti. I would like to highlight some of the values that are synonymous with Gandhiji. He propagated non- violence and succeeded in getting us our freedom, peacefully. Let us also make this our policy, to fight for peace and justice without using violence.

Secondly, Gandhiji was known for religious tolerance, living in a country like India, with people practicing different religions. He taught people to respect on e another, to respect the different religions and live in communal peace and harmony.

Gnadhiji was always against bribery and corruption. He would have been very upset with the way things are today, when corruption has become a way of life. If we want to honour this great man, then friends, we must decide here and now to abide by his principles and values, the value of peace, non-violence and honesty.                Thank you.

13.      You have been invited to speak at a gathering of young home makers. Draft your speech highlighting the advantages of being ‘Stay-at-home’ parents and offering suggestions to utilize time and opportunity to the maximum.

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about the advantages of being ‘Stay-at-home’ parents and offering suggestions to utilize time and opportunity to the maximum

At the outset that I too am a ‘stay-at-home’ mom. Do I envy mothers who are employed outside the home? Yes and No. There are advantages and disadvantages to every situation. This morning we will focus on the advantages of being stay at home moms. The best thing is that we get to see our children grow, every little step they take brings us untold joy. The first words, the first meal and so on. As they grow older, we are there for them to bandage or kiss a wound to applaud their success at activities. We are there to cater to their every need and be a friend philosopher and guide to our children.

But my friends, one need not spend all 24 hours at the beck and call of our children, while they get busy with growing up, school, homework, hobbies etc. We find that we will have time for other things. I would like to suggest that you use the time meaningfully. Learn a new craft or pick up a new hobby, cater to your own interests, it will make you feel good about staying at home. You should never feel that you have ‘sacrificed’ you life for your children. Instead you should feel that you have prioritized your time, you have given your time freely and willingly for your children.

Children, my friends, do appreciate your presence at home. They love to come home to ‘mama’ they enjoy narrating incidents. So continue to sustain this warmth and this relationship which is really precious.

Thank you.

14.     You have been invited to speak at a gathering of young entrepreneurs (businessman). Draft your speech highlighting honesty in business dealings, gender equality and child labour.

Ladies and gentlemen you are all young entrepreneurs gathered here thes evening and I congratulate you for the boldness with which you step into the business world. Having started your business, be it small scale or large scale industry there are a few things you will need to pay attention to. You have already dealt with financial capital, you probably have a decent office space and employees it is now important to acquire some expertise in human relations.

The first thing, I would advocate is a sense of honesty in your business dealings. Friends if you are honest. I can assure you, you will have no regrets, it takes time and courage to build up your business, and it always pays to be honest.

Secondly, friends, as tempting as it may be please refrain from children, as you know that it is illegal, besides which you have a moral responsibility to ensure that the child receives an education not employment.

And lastly, please understand that men and women are equal and you should treat them so, when it comes to having new personnel, promoting existing ones always go by merit rather than the false notion that men are better! Gender Equality, today is a global concern and needs to be adhered to.

               Thank you.

15.     An outstanding sports person among your college students had a fatal car accident. Prepare a condolence speech to be given at the memorial service.

My Dear friends, we have gathered here this evening to pay tribute to our dear friend Santosh who is no longer with us. His untimely and unfortunate demise has left us all heart broken.

Snatosh was a vibrant young man and a keen sportsman. He was the captain of our college cricket team and much loved by his team mates. He was a great leader and was always very considerate about others. ‘Cricket’ , he used to say, ‘is my first love’. Besides this know, he also played basket ball with great passion.

He always put his heart into everything he did, be it sports studies or his numerous extra-curricular activites.

We will miss him very much and on behalf of all present here, I offer our deepest sympathies to his parents and brother. May his soul rest in peace.

               Thank you.

16.  Failure is always the first step to success. Write a brief speech encouraging class XII students who are about to appear for a board exam.

Failure is always the first step to success.

My Dear Students, at this time of the year, all of you, I am sure, are experiencing exam fever. You are extremely tense, anxious and worried, not so much about answering the exam as wondering what percentage you will get and whether you will get the college of your choice.

Friends, first of all try to relax. Every morning spend 5 minutes doing some breathing exercises. Draw up a time-table so that you can give enough time for all the subjects you have to study. It is equally important to give yourself time to relax. Sleep well, eat well and sturdy hard. It is always good to study in the early hours of the morning when there are no distractions. You must also sit upright, do not lie in bed with a book or slouch on a sofa-  You will soon find yourself dozing off. Keep a pen or pencil handy to make notes as you go along. Drink plenty of water or fluids and avoid snacking on junk food. You may listen to music during the short breaks that you take. It helps you relax and your mind becomes more receptive. There is nothing to fear, for even if you do not do as well as you expected, you can always opt for an alternative career.

Failure, as you know, is a stepping stone to success. However, you must do your best, to achieve the results you want.

I wish you all the very best!

               Thank you.

17. You wish to take part in elocution contest in your Junior College. One of the topics therein is “Disadvantages of Television”. Prepare a speech on it in about 100 words.

                                            DISADVANTAGES OF TELEVISION

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about DISADVANTAGES OF TELEVISION.

I can see many of you using your television. Young people today have become very attached to this piece of technology. I am not here to denounce the use of the television but what I would like to draw your attention to is the disadvantages of the television. Advantages are plenty it allows you to connect immediately with anyone, anywhere in the world.

One of the best means of mass communication is the television, however, sitting in front of what they call the ‘Idiot Box’, can be a means of escapism, when people prefer to live through the lives of the characters they see on television. Television programmes are meant to educate and inspire people to better living but unfortunately this does not happen. Most of the programs deal with crime and violence, they depict obscenest sex scenes and use bad language, which influences the viewers to do the same.

Television viewing can glamorize evil, advertisements create an unnecessary desire for all consumer products.

Today, television entices people to indulge in unhealthy life-styles. It fills them with resentment when they cannot be like the rich and the famous.

Thank you.

18.Your college has organized an elocution competition on the topic: “How can we lead people from a poverty-ridden world to a poverty-free world?” Prepare a speech of about 100 words on this topic.

“How can we lead people from a poverty-ridden world to a poverty-free world?”

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about “How can we lead people from a poverty-ridden world to a poverty-free world?”.

It is said that India is a rich country inhabited by poor people. Though I do not fully support the statement I don’t disagree with it either. Because in most countries people have problem’s; but in our country ‘people’ themselves are a problem. I mean, the fast increasing population is a real threat to our progress. And the growth of population is more among the poor and the uneducated. That is why it is often remarked that “the rich get richer and the poor get children.” Despite the apparent insensitivity of the remark, I think,  there is some trace of truth in it. Whatever progress we make, it is eaten up by the ever growing population. Effective population control can be achieved only through education-especially the education of girls. Educated mothers also contribute to the quality of population by proper healthcare and nursing of the children.

Another big problem we face is the low agricultural output. Too many farmers depend on the old-fashioned methods. This must be changed. We must practice intensive agriculture with modern technology throughout the country. The unemployed farmers must be absorbed in industries. Moreover, the industries must be spread out to achieve a balanced growth.

Of course, all these changes cannot be made overnight. But I am hopeful that these measures will be implemented sooner than later, and we will emerge as a developed, rich nation.

Thank you!

19. Your college has organized an elocution competition on the topic: “Higher Education in Maharashtra”. Prepare a speech of about 100 words on this topic.

                                                “Higher Education in Maharashtra”.

Respected Principal, Teacher’s and My  Dear Friend’s : Today I would like to tell you something about “Higher Education in Maharashtra”.

Now in our country, education is the ‘right’ of every child. It is, of course, a bold step forward. But a valid question remains to be answered : Right to what short of Education? Let’s take the case of higher education in Maharashtra. Only a privileged few can pursue higher education. Our education system, like industries, work on mass production and class production. The mass education, without any proper quality check, is for the poor. For you and I. Class education, which aims at international standards, is for the rich.

But this was not what our freedom fighters and social reformers envisaged. They dreamat of an India, a Maharashtra, where quality higher education would be imparted to anyone who qualified for it without any discrimination of caste, class or gender. Ours is a state where Mahatma Jotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule pioneered girls’ education long ago. But where do we stand now? Instead of empowering our sisters through education we have also failed in empowering the downtrodden with education-the only weapon with which they can fight against injustice. In this dismal scenario, is it even possible for a poor student to dream of higher education? The answer unfortunately, is a big No. The ‘real’ and ‘quality’ education is the privilege of a selected few. These things must change. We MUST change these things.

               Jai Hind! Jai Maharashtra!
